When most people are asked what their biggest concern is when it comes to interaction with others the answer heard most often is their appearance. Specifically, people worry about body image and how other s perceive them. One of the hardest target areas that many deal with is the abdominal region. This is one reason that so many people spend a large part of their exercise routine working on these muscles. The stomach muscles can be some of the most challenging. As such it can be difficult to find out which stomach exercises will be best for a particular individual.
The very first thing to note when beginning new stomach exercises is that there are actually multiple muscles across the abdominal region that will have to be worked both individually or in groups. If a person were to worry about doing traditional crunches then they would only work the upper abs. The lower abs and the “love handles” would still need separate treatment. The main areas that must be addressed are the transverse abdominals, the interior obliques, the external obliques, and the rectus abdominus. In order to get the best possible workout the stomach exercises must work each of these areas.
One of the most traditional forms of abdominal exercises is “crunches,” so called because the body is drawn into an almost fetal-like position which “crunches” the abdominals and is then stretched back out. Typically this exercise is performed without mechanical aids and as such makes a good choice for those who have little room for personal equipment or cannot go to a gym. Crunches come in several different variations including the standard, the side, and the butterfly just to name a few. These exercises for love handles really add a burn to your core muscle group!
Another exercise for love handles that comes highly recommended by many in the fitness field is one that is also very easy to do. Lying flat on the stomach on the floor, the body is then raised up on the arms as if doing a push up and then hold the position for as long as possible. Another highly recommended stomach exercise routine is the Pilates workout. This workout focuses on the abdominals and considers them to be the body’s core. All muscles that are utilized during a Pilates session will touch on the stomach muscles in one way or another.
There are a few things to remember when beginning an abdominal exercising routine. First and foremost is that consistency must be maintained. Many people will start a new exercise just to let it fall by the wayside soon after. By setting a schedule and workout routine it will be much easier to keep up with any overall goals that might have been set. Also, choose an exercise that is comfortable yet challenging. Whether this includes the use of machines or just good plain pulse pounding crunches will be something that the individual will have to determine on their own.
It can take a bit of work to find out just what stomach exercises will work the best. Since everyone is built differently this can be hit and miss but with some diligence it will not be hard to do. The best exercises for love handles and the “six pack” look often come from a combination of several different exercises. Try each type of exercise that is available and see which ones work best. As a new routine begins to take shape try adding a new exercise into it every so often so that interest is not quickly lost. With the right amount of determination and dedication and the right exercises to flatten the stomach the abdominals will soon be in great looking shape and ready to be shown off.
