OK so we all know the routine, in order to get that Six Pack we all want and desire it takes hard work. It takes dedication and it takes a variety of exercises that work and attack our abdominals muscles from different angles.
The one thing that typically gets overlooked is stretching!
Stretching plays just as important a role in our muscle development as the target abdominal exercises themselves. Building a flexible core is key to our development, that’s why Yoga is such a fantastic workout method. The Stretching and holding of positions build deep muscle fiber strength and that in turn develops a great core. Which will in the long run get you those Six Pack Abs!
Here are some basic benefits gained from Stretching:
- Improved flexibility and muscle range
- Can assist you in preventing injuries
- In most cases helps your muscles recover quicker and stronger
- Is a great way to cool down and flush out the Lactic Acid from your muscles
A good practice to get into is use Static stretching (the stretch and hold method) between your crunches, you can stretch after each rep or after each set. Its important that you do it while your muscles are warm and make sure you hold the stretch for 20- 30 seconds…this will allow you gain better flexibility and of course build those abdominal muscles from the ground up!
It should be noted that you should never stretch beyond the point of pain and never do stretches that cause you pain. As always consult with your Physician before starting any exercise program!
